Ailwyn Edward Fellowes was born 10 November 1855, the younger son of Edward Fellowes (later Baron de Ramsey) and Lady Mary Julia Fellowes (shown on an adjacent CdV). He followed a career as a Conservative politician, winning the seat of Ramsey in a by-election in 1885.

He married the Hon. Agatha Eleanor Augusta, daughter of Hedworth Joliffe, 2nd Baron Hylton, on 9th February 1886; they had four sons.

He held a number of distinguished government appointments, was a member of Arthur Balfour's cabinet as President of the Board of Agriculture, and served as chairman of Norfolk County Council, having been an alderman for many years. He was appointed KCVO in 1911 and KBE in 1917, being raised to the peerage in the 1921 birthday honours list as the 1st Baron Ailwyn, of Honingham in the County of Norfolk.

He died at Honingham Hall on 23 September 1924 and was buried in the grounds of the local church.
